In 2009, Sha’Vaughn Kierra Wallace, a rising college sophomore at Indiana University of Pennsylvania was an innocent victim to local gun violence in the city of Pittsburgh. After her death, a community of activists, parents, friends and family started the Kierra Keeps Caring Foundation to promote a positive quality of life for the youth of Pittsburgh. Specifically, the Foundation seeks to eliminate street violence, build character in the lives of local youth and maintain active lines of communication with the youth of Pittsburgh. The Foundation sponsors a yearly Walk for Life, Essay Contest and Mother’s Day Luncheon.
