Grandmother Arrested on Marijuana Sales Related Charges

A 64 year old grandmother from Saver has been arrested on charges of selling marijuana that she sourced from California.

The woman, who is said to have sold upwards of 100 pounds of marijuana, is alleged to have received marijuana in shipments of 30 to 40 pounds apiece, and then sold each pound for $3,400. Police say that a search of her house revealed almost $400,000 in cash, 64 pounds of marijuana, as well as psychedelic mushrooms and hashish. Police allege that the woman has been selling marijuana for at least five years.

After her arrest the woman is quoted as saying that her only crime was doing what she could in order to raise her children without having to draw public assistance. The woman’s daughter also came to her defense, insisting that police should focus their efforts on more serious criminals such as murderers, rapists, and pedophiles. She noted that, in her opinion, it does not make sense to put a non-violent offender in the same place as such violent people.

Pittsburgh Drug Ring Sold Meth as Ecstasy

Pittsburgh authorities allege that drug dealers are going to new and even more dangerous lengths in order to peddle their wares to unsuspecting users. A drug ring in the Pittsburgh area was allegedly selling extremely dangerous methamphetamines to local drug users by claiming it was the club/rave drug known as Ecstasy. Federal officials said last Friday that suburban locations such as the Mall at Robinson, selected for their inconspicuous nature, were used by members of the ring as meet-up locations for their buyers.

A 29-year-old North Fayette man was alleged to be the leader of the drug ring, and is accused of trying to generate an entirely new market in the drug trade by selling meth and claiming it was Ecstasy. According to Michael Christmas, FBI supervisory special agent, the drug ring was being investigated as the result of a 14-person indictment.

Ecstasy is commonly sold to college-age individuals for club and rave parties, and has an entirely different effect on the body and mind than methamphetamines do. The people who took the drug under the auspices that it was Ecstasy told police that they wondered why they remained wide awake for days, a characteristic that is one of the effects of meth. The drug that was being sold was tested as being 90% meth with the remaining 10% being Ecstasy. According to investigators, the indictment began in early 2013, and led to revelations that a group of people headquartered near the Pittsburgh airport was having meth shipped in from Cleveland, as well as heroin and marijuana shipped in from New York City.

The ring leader is likely to be charged with conspiracy to possess and distribute methamphetamines and heroin, as well as possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking.

Ross Township Man Accused of Theraflu Selling Laced Heroin

A man from Ross Township was arrested for allegedly selling heroin laced with fentanyl, a mixture which he then labeled “Theraflu.”

Ross Township and Springdale Township police coordinated with the Allegheny County Narcotics Team to make the arrest. Police sources indicate that the suspect, who is from Glenshaw, has been arrested and charged with multiple counts relating to the possession and sale of heroin and cocaine. Police allege that the man sold the drugs to undercover police agents on multiple occasions.

Heroin laced with fentanyl has been implicated in heroin overdose deaths in at least 14 states. The drug cocktail rose to prominence after the recent overdose death of actor Philip Seymour Hoffman.

The suspect in this latest case is alleged to have sold the drug mixture across the northern sections of Pittsburgh. For his part the man, who was arrested at his parent’s house, proclaimed his innocence. As he walked to a waiting police cruiser he was quoted as saying “Not guilty, I’ll tell you that.”

Hidden Compartment inside Car Reveals 2,500 bags of Heroin

While searching for a suspected drug dealer in the Tarentum area, police discovered a car that the suspect allegedly used to transport the drugs. A search of the car yielded thousands of bags of heroin.

Police from Tarentum and Harrison Township joined forces with the State Attorney General’s Office in the search for a 34 year old man who is suspected of drug dealing. After obtaining a search warrant the group raided an apartment in the 200 block of Seventh Avenue, but did not locate the suspect inside. But police were able to make arrests on two other individuals who were in the apartment, and also were able to confiscate a car that the suspect had been seen driving.

With the help of a drug sniffing dog, police were able to locate a hidden compartment in the car which held approximately 2,500 bags of heroin and a handgun. Police have estimated that the group headed by the suspect may have sold as many as 2,500 bags of heroin per week from the car.

The two individuals who were arrested within the apartment were booked on drug related charges. The original suspect is still at large.
